Lily Mae Walters is a multi-talented author, and I cannot wait for you to meet this writer.
Welcome! Please tell us about your newest release.
Brittle’s Academy for The Magically Unstable is a series of books aimed at all ages. It centres around a magic academy that pupils attend just once a week whilst attending their normal high school the rest of the time.
The first story is called Charlie Makes a Discovery and this is how we find out all about Professor Brittle, his school and some of the teachers.
Each story will focus on a different character including the teachers to give an all round view of the school.
Such a fun concept! Man, I wish I went to this school back in high school. So it sounds like a lot of fun to write, but I imagine you had some difficulties in the writing process, too. What was the hardest part?
The hardest part of writing for me is finding the time and staying focused. I have 3 jobs as well as a family and dogs to care for so I really struggle with time. Also my brain gets easily distracted by new stories that it wants to write instead of finishing the one it’s working on.
Wowsers, you sound like you have a lot of your plate! Well, I'm glad you've been able to find time to write a lot. What was your favourite scene to write in this?
My favourite scene to write in this book was towards the end where the children are given a written test to do. They soon discover what happens when they get the question wrong and the illustrator...Tom Rowley...has captured the moment perfectly in his drawing.
I saw you have an illustrator for this! Now I'm intrigued to know what happens during that test. OK, favourite question: favourite character?
My favourite character currently is Professor Peculiar. She is beautiful and elegant and wears a very special hat, but as we discover there is something very unusual about her hat and I’m looking forward to writing her story...Professor Peculiar loses her grace.
What a fun name! This book sounds so whimsical and exciting. So, since you've written a lot, you must have a lot of advice for writers. Could you share some of that with us?
My advice to writers would be to write what you enjoy. I love magic and all my books including my adult ones have magic of some kind in them.
I especially love the idea of fantasy worlds being part of our normal lives, which is why the Brittle books and my other series Josie James have magical places situated in our everyday lives.
Amazing! Yes, so important to write what you enjoy. Thank you for joining us! Readers, make sure to give this author a follow and check out some of their latest works.

Five Minutes Alfie
I’m also very excited about my first rhyming picture book called Five Minutes Alfie.
It’s the story of a young boy who dreams he’s a king but discovers a sleeping dragon across the castle gate.
Everyone tries to wake him up but it’s King Alfie who has the best idea.
Josie James is an ordinary 13 year old until something extraordinary happens during her summer holidays.

he Teardrops of Summer – magical crystals that render the owner immortal – have been stolen. Along with her telepathic husky-dog Protector Asher and her new friends, Josie must race to find the Teardrops and prevent catastrophe for their world. The Josie James books is a series of 5 books with Josie aging a year each time. She starts at 13 and will be 18 by the end of the last one. They will all have a similar feel about them, with Josie's end goal of freeing Suncroft from the curse.Book 2 is entitled Josie James and The Velvet Knife.
